Ford vs Ferrari, the story of the Ford GT40 on "Behind the Headlights"
Переглядів 911 тис.7 років тому
Please read ALL my comments before you view this video. The story of the Ford GT40 and how it beat Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 from the Speed Channel show "Behind the Headlights". Just to let everyone know, this video was recorded off cable TV back in 2004, it's not in HD, the sound isn't the greatest and it contains commercials from that era (you can FF through them if you ...
35 Terminator Mustang Cobra's show up at the 2016 Carlise Ford Nationals

The 2016 Carlisle Ford Nationals on June 3-5 was another great show and one of my favorite Mustang's, the 03, 04 SVT Cobra was there in great numbers, 30 in a row here and a few more scattered around for a total of about 35!
Evidently I came for the ads!
Peeing intensifies
What if… it had a Hemi? 😮
Or a Boss 429 or a 427 SOHC.
I enjoyed this story EMINCLY

You couldn’t have edited all the fucking ad breaks out? We have to watch UA-cam ads on top of watching ads. Lazy lazy!
Of course you couldn't be bothered reading my comments first like I asked, right?
Thank's for your determination to provide this history. 🎉
RIP Ken Miles
NOT ENJOYABLE ADDs every 6 min dont get it will not watch any programs froom SPEED guess that is why they are nolonger on the air
It’s the old school commercials that are the best part of this.
I love 💕 the forced commercials that make this absolutely shit. Fuck you UA-cam, your god, and the pig that shit you. Amen.
Cobra is still to date the most beautiful car ever made....
I was taught in school back in the 80's that we would be riding around in jetpacks today..... If Ken Miles would of been around I hav NO DOUBT we would be. He pushed the envelope so far he had to make a whole new envelope. He innovated cars to the point of comparing going from snail mail.... to email. A genius that put his money where his mouth was. True Hero Rip Mr. Miles
Too many fucking commercials this thing sucks worse than Ford worse than Ferrari. Fuc you guys.
What about ken miles?
Phil Remington is one of my heroes. I hear his name and I smile. Legend
The mustang was built on a falcon chassis.
nope, it was not outruled after 1969. It was just without any chance against the Porsche 917 when the shorttail version was race ready in 1970. No one expected to build 25 pure race cars without a road going version for sale. They lowered the necessary amount from 50 to 25 to encourage the car makers to create new sports cars to make sports car racing more interesting (Lola T70 and Ford GT40 were considered not really competitive anymore, in fact the T70 never really was on long distance runs because of the chevy engine in principle needed higher octane fuel). They expected that somebody would create road going sportscars strong enough to compete against 3 litre prototypes. Instead Porsche built 25 5-litre prototypes.
And it only cost one man his life! A great man BTW! RIP KEN!
Labor verses management, The Deuce blew it for Miles. Management usually does
As a kid and son of a Ford man, I was in heaven ( as a kid can be ) when Ford got it together to go car racing. Cobra's and Ford GT 's among others made for a lot of very cool times growing up. The best iconic racing of all time happened during the 60's.
Great memories 👏Great history thank you 🙏 much.
ONE OF THE MOST BUTCHERED WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE...LeMANS....Le....MANS.... OR Le MAW? AS BAD AS THE BRITS MAKING A PLANE THEY CAN NOT PRONOUNCE THE NAME OF.....HURRI....CAINE, CANE.....NOT CUN.
When Ken Miles was deprived of his win it was because his car placed up front in qualifying whereas the Amon car was further back. So, it was judged that it had travelled further in the 24 hours. There are two things wrong with this rule: >1.0-why bother qualifying near or at the front when clearly qualifying near or at the rear would be an advantage; >2.0-the distance travelled in the 24 hours should be measured from the start finish line. Otherwise, the finish line for each car ought to have been the point at which each car actually started running. In this way qualifying up toward the front maintains the advantage of qualifying and still every car measure its distance from start to finish on the same basis. This was a phenomenal achievement for the Ford Motor Company, all the team members and Henry Ford II himself, especially the all American team. Terrific story.
These old commercials though
Ken did win the triple crown imo. Idc about a stupid La Man's rule. That's the dumbest rule I ever heard of anyway.
*FIA is a French organisation. 'Nuff said. Cheers!*
@@blackrifle6736 yea "French" being the key word.
After the GT40's last win the European's changed the rules at La Mans so the GT40 couldn't win anymore. Sore losers lol
Where can I find a "link" to watch this Movie?
*Clue up. One cannot post links outside of YT's sandbox. However one may BUY ''Ford v Ferrari'' in 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray on Amazon for about $16.--. Cheers!*
Ken Miles wasn't driving GT40 when he died, he was driving a new Ford J-Car.
There were 13 GT40s at '66 LeMans, not 6.
Henry Ford II replaced "his aging uncle Edsel"??? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Edsel was his dad and Edsel died in 1943.
Yes, others have pointed this out too, they made some errors in telling this story but overall I think they did a great job.
This hammering stupid background music is very annoying.
*Targetted to American OTA TV audiences circa 2003. That ain't you, Mein Herr. Cheers!*
Lets put the record straight. Everybody including The Ford family even today, they keep saying to the world that Ferrari gave the finger to Ford at the very last moment and left the Ford people with no option but to get back to the states without the takeover of the Ferrari Factory. The REAL story is very different, Ferrari was willing to sel the Ferrari factory but he would never sell the racing team period! When the day came to sign the takeover, the Ferrari`s advisers and lawyers, reading the proposed takeover contracts, they discovere that FORD ha changed the wording and they add that Mr Ferrari would run the racing team at his will but the racing team was included in the take-over and therefore in the end Ferrari would become sort of a emplyee of The Ford Motor Company. When this was made aware to Mr Ferrari and was asked if he accepted, Mr Ferrari Left the meeting and was herd saying, I will never do deals with people that do not honor with what was originally agreed. Now that Ford made a fantastic car and they did beat Ferrari at LeMans, is well kown and well deserved.
So sad that this once great company will NEVER ever win again at Lemans Not if it produces electric vehicles like it now does The simple problem is that many people don't care about history anymore It's just about money, fads and whatever is so-called trendy Most car companies don't build cars anymore they are just forced to build whatever the marketing and advertising people say A car like the Ford GT 40 will never ever be built again I'm not including the recent Ford GT because that doesn't even have a V8 engine in it Geez a Ford GT with a V6 ok a twin turbo V6 but still not a V8
One report I read years ago was the 427's made more power when tested after the race than when first installed.
in 1967 the winning MKIV was dyno'd at 494 before the race and 499 3200 miles later.
They should have checked #1
@@davidthayer6969that is very well with the margin of error, especially in the 60s when they measured solely the engine with accessories or a drivetrain. But still holding up that well is impressive, especially for the times and it showed that a big inefficient engine is more durable than a high strung, but more efficient engine. That means however that fuel restrictions allowed Porsche and Ferrari to still run Le Mans, while fords engine was out, because it purely relied on its loose construction and huge displacement, which made it chug way more fuel.
A lot of cleavage in commercials.
Loved the Speed Channel until Disney Corp. bought it and turned it to crap.
*Everything Disney touched in recent years turned to Woke shit. Governor DeSantis and Florida's Legislature made sure that "Go Woke, Go Broke" is not just a slogan but has teeth and inflicts consequences on Disney's miscreant behaviours. Stock tanked, CEO fired and replaced. Having felt real heat, they're beginning to see the light. Cheers!*

At the end , chicken farmer wasn't even with ford, he was busy with K cars😂
I always get a bit sad, when they come to the win in '66 and Ken Miles got robbed of his triple crown win, because Henry wanted a nice picture. And then he dies testing the J car a couple of months later. Henry ll should have built a monument to that guy and put it in front of the Ford building, because Ken was the one who really made the car the star of the era. Three for three. Daytona, Sebring, and Le Mans all in the same year, the same series. ONE MAN won them all.
The fact that you legit recorded this from TV and thought it was a good idea to leave the commercials in it makes you the stupidest and laziest person on the planet
If we were standing face to face you wouldn't have the nerve to say that to me.
Shelby is the man
Yeah they fucked Ken Miles
One of my favorite movies gord vs. Ferrari
I'm just doing research for a Ford v Ferrari lighter design. So just getting an understanding of what happened. Got to say that's some legacy from Ford.
Thank you for posting. An insightful in depth review of the real story. Just the facts, the development, and the passion.
The Ford Mustang is my favorite
I’ve sat in the No1 GT40, to think the speeds it achieved in the 60’s and driven by top drivers, it’s very snug inside and to sit in that at high speeds takes a brave person! Lovely to see this video again, thanks for sharing.
I have been out on the track in one of these cars they are very snug smelly and loud, so snug the door pushes down on your bone dome and into your seat. They mostly drift sideways at 200mph
